Bhangra music originated in the Punjab region of India and began as a folk dance. Today, bhangra is one of the world’s most popular styles of dance music and one of the fastest growing in both the UK and the US.
In 2001, bhangra began to exert an influence over U.S. hip hop music, with artists like Missy Elliot, The Fugees and Jay-Z releasing tracks containing bhangra elements. It has been hailed as the world’s fastest growing dance and music form and today bhangra is celebrated everywhere by people of all ages and race.
