Known in Tibet as “Drolma,” “She Who Liberates,” she is called “swift and heroic,” liberating her devotees from fears of all kinds and offering protection from harm. Tara also has roots as a Hindu goddess, and likely pre-dates Buddhism. While Tara has 21 emanations in both wrathful and peaceful forms, the most beloved are Green Tara, who sits with one foot extended, ready to leap up to help those in need, and White Tara, who is prayed to for long life.
