Terra Incognita's Prem Joshua, a multi-instrumentalist and composer, is a talented man. Born in Germany into a musical family, he traveled the world searching for the keys to his spirit. In India he found one and learned to play sitar under the guidance of Ustad Usman Khan.
He has successfully (and beautifully) married his Indian classical training with elements of desert tribal music and jazz. Moghul Gardens is a gentle ride of a tune using a santoor (Persian hammer dulcimer) for sparkle and a driving tabla behind a fortunately composed array of jazzy flute and saxophone. Koregaon Morning is a mesmerizing and joyful song, lush and dense with the sound of seven bamboo flutes cushioned by an open soundscape of percussion and bells. Mango Rain will turn your living room into a mountain top (with excellent weather).
Hamsafar is a heavenly blend of musical styles, perfect for bodywork and yoga, and listening too. The music between the notes is even better!

Is Prem Joshua an Asian musician plying to the West or a western musician playing to Asians? It does not really mater as one thing is for sure: he is the new sensation of the world music scene! His music captures both the true spirit of the Indian classical tradition an the hypnotic laid-backness of urban jazz and lounge.
